At KS3 students will study a broad selection of topics covering areas from the National Curriculum. Through a variety of activities students will work on the different areas of the Mathematics curriculum; number, algebra, geometry and measure and handling data. Students will improve their processing skills by undertaking activities with a “real life theme” to help them see the everyday uses of the subject.
Not all students have had positive experiences of Mathematics so we endeavour to tailor our teaching to individuals and show that everyone can have success in the subject with support.
We also offer the success@arithmetic Numeracy intervention which is managed by the Head of Mathematics and delivered by the department Higher Level Teaching Assistant. This intervention is designed to help students significantly improve their "number age" and skills in mental arithmetic. Since its launch we have had great success from this.
Qualifications: Students generally begin studying for their GCSE in Mathematics in Year 10, if appropriate students have the opportunity to start the course early in Year 9.
In KS3 all students will be given the opportunity to work towards AQA Unit Awards in various areas of Mathematics.
If you require further information on qualifications please contact Mrs Victoria Milne (Head of Mathematics) at the centre.
