In Outdoor Education students have opportunities to experience and develop a range of new and exciting sporting interests:
Rock climbing is especially popular and students have the chance to work towards National Indoor Climbing Awards (NICAS). They are not limited to indoor walls alone and can be seen on nearby crags such as those in Scugdale, in the northern part of the North Yorks Moors.
Mountain biking is also popular, the local area having lots of bridleways and quieter roads. Students are able to work towards GEARS awards accredited through the Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme (MIAS) and ABC Awards.
Map reading and Orienteering provides the students with the opportunity to develop life skills through practical application. The students learn how to use both 4 and 6 figure grid references on a map and the correct use of a compass for assisting with navigation. Northallerton sits mid-place between 2 national parks and students also have the opportunity to explore these areas using their map reading skills.
