Design and Technology
As of January 2010 Sunbeck (HRPRS) has had a fully functioning Design and Technology workshop which has state of the art equipment for students and staff to use.
One of our first projects was to design and make a workbench. Students constructed this using Mortise and Tenon joinery and although it was a challenge, with a little patience and a lot of care they overcame all obstacles and produced an outstanding piece of furniture that will be used for years to come.
Other projects include; Small boxes using Half Lap Joints; Litter pickers using basic mechanisms; Foot stools with Mortise and Tenon Joints; and Planters. It has been a very exciting venture to set up and we have a great space in which students and staff alike love to be and love to work!
our Key stage 4 students have been compleating the BTEC level 1 construction course in which they have produced a small table using Mortise and Tenon joinery .
This term students have been working on the wood turning lathe producing Pens which they have enjoyed doing seeing the square blank start as a square and end up as a pen.

Construction at Northdale
We have had a new venture this year at Northdale Horticultural Centre. Students have been accessing a BTEC construction course which has led to a BTEC level 1 in construction qualification. They have enjoyed their time putting down a patio area on the front of the cabin. They have also had a bench donated on which they can sit and write their assignments.
