Welcome to Sunbeck
Sunbeck is a place where young people are known, valued and given the opportunity to succeed.
We are a small, specialist setting serving young people from across North Yorkshire. We work with students who have often experienced significant challenges in their education, and our role is to provide something different: a calm, purposeful and ambitious environment where they can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and make progress.
Our approach is built around four simple ideas:

We believe that every young person deserves to feel that they belong. We build strong relationships with students, families and our partner schools, while maintaining the high expectations that young people need to achieve their potential. We are warm and supportive, but we are also clear about standards, routines and responsibility.
Learning remains at the heart of everything we do. Our students access a broad and ambitious curriculum that develops their knowledge, qualifications, practical skills and understanding of the wider world. Alongside English, mathematics and science, we provide opportunities through catering, creative subjects, sport, personal development and World Ready learning. We want our young people to leave Sunbeck with more than qualifications. We want them to leave with confidence, character and a sense of what they can achieve next.
We also recognise that successful learning depends on students feeling safe, regulated and ready to learn. Our environment is designed to feel calm, welcoming and purposeful, while our staff take the time to understand each young person and what they need to succeed.
Sunbeck is not defined by what has happened to a young person before they arrive here. It is about what happens next.
We want every student who comes through our doors to experience success, however small that first success might be. We want them to discover strengths they did not know they had, develop the confidence to make better choices and leave us ready for their next stage.
We are proud to be part of the North Yorkshire community and to work closely with our partner schools, families and wider services. Our success is ultimately measured by what happens for our young people beyond Sunbeck.
