Emotional Literacy

To address the SEMH needs of our pupils in Emotional Literacy students are taught how to understand and interpret their emotions and feelings in a safe and constructive way. Through group and individual work, students are introduced to the concepts of resilience as well as confidence and independence.

Emotional Literacy pulls from all subject areas: The creativity of Art, the language skills of English and the practicality of Catering or Construction. For example using their writing skills taught in English and delivering what they’ve written to a group of their peers to build their confidence and social skills.

Throughout the course students will look at several aspects of their emotional wellbeing including, but not limited to: their fears, their talents and their problem solving abilities, and build a vocabulary to express this.

Going hand in hand with the Thrive approach the students are supported in their social and emotional growth to address any gaps in their emotional development.
